I put up that picture in my blog title for a couple reasons, 1) it's silly, 2) it adds a little color to the page when you first arrive, and 3) it seems like an apt metaphor. I'm chasing a carrot that is just out of reach but I put it there myself. No one told me that I had to work at night and pursue my screenwriting career during the day but here I am (I've actually had a day or two of a break to do errands and visit Ash at school but the rest of the week I'm back in writing mode).

The picture by the way is a screenshot from True Motivation, a video I did for some contest several years ago that I didn't win. At 47 seconds into the video there's a shot of my back and you can clearly see a large mole that I've since had removed. I also drank several raw eggs for the video even though it looks like I edited around it.

The other night I went to a Channel 101 screening. It was awesome and I hope that once the web series I'm working on is edited that maybe it will fit with their programming. You can watch the videos that are currently a part of the 'network' here and watch my friend's super funny yet canceled series Co-Workers in a Barely Different Dimension here. Channel 101 has a couple claims to fame but I first heard about it through The Lonely Island's series The 'Bu which you can find on The Lonely Island's Youtube along with a bunch of other good stuff. You might be burnt out on I'm On a Boat and stuff like that but there is some awesome Lonely Island stuff out there still to discover.

Other than that, life is great. I can't believe it's almost October.

Recently I did a new draft of my screenplay Addicted to You and submitted it to the 2011 Beverly Hills Film Festival Screenplay Competition on Withoutabox.  Here's the logline:

Addicted To You
Jake, a producer for the Intervention style documentary show "Confrontation," is devastated when is longtime girlfriend tells him she's cheated on him the night he set to propose. He goes into depression until his next "Confrontation" shoot. When he gets to the documentary subject's hometown he meets a girl named Amber and falls for her instantly. He continues to the subject's house and finds that Amber is the addict he's supposed to be documenting.

I was a finalist last year and had a lot of fun.

Last night I live-tweeted Clash of the Titans.  I had some good gems during it, it was a pretty mediocre movie but better than I expected.  I have my men's basketball league on Thursday nights so I changed my work schedule around, now Thursday and Saturday nights are my weekend and Ash works on Fridays so Thursday night might be my movie watching night.  That could mean more LTing to come.

Today I met with Phil about our baseball movie and we made some good strides.  I'll do another draft and then we'll be ready to show it to people.

I met with Phil during the day, picked up Ash and immediately when out to eat, then went home to get some things and went straight to work.  I'm working until 2:30am, hopefully getting to sleep by 3, and then getting up for a meeting in the morning with my Manager and a Director to talk about the baseball movie and another project we have in the works.

Hopefully after that I'll have a chance to hang out at the pool with Ash.  Then back to work Sunday night.

One more thing, has anyone else seen the new IMDb layout?  I'm not a fan.

In honor of my work with my co-writer Phil, who is actually in The Scout. Hopefully our movie will be in the same league one day.

So, I've added some ads to my blog. Mostly they're for things like Netflix and Film schools and whatever that are related to my blog so that's cool, it'd be awesome if you could click on them every now and then if they seem interesting. For example, if you have a Netflix account or want a Netflix account anyway, use the ad right?

However, I also enabled Amazon ads where I can link directly to movies, TV, etc that I wrote or have some relationship to and, since I wrote my movies non-union and got paid only a couple hundred dollars for each with no back-end deal, I can now make a (small) percentage off of the movies I sell if you buy them directly from a link on my blog. Usually union writers get a cut of the DVD sales, I am non-union and do not, now I can if you clink the links on my sidebar and actually buy the movie or click links like this: Pastor Jones: Heavenly Voices or this: Johnson Family Christmas Dinner

Right now on amazon you can get both of my movies "used" which sometimes still means sealed and new for under $5.

But when my next two DVDs come out buy them here on my blog, I'll make it really easy and I'll let you know when they're available.  Those next two movies are Walk By Faith: After the Honeymoon and Nora's Hair Salon 3 (those are the IMDb pages).  If you have IMDbPro check out my page by the way.

If you want to catch up on the epic sagas of Nora and Walk by Faith, check out these movies: Nora's Hair Salon, Nora's Hair Salon 2 (Full Sub Sen), and Walk by Faith.

I'm preparing to direct a web series, we're having our first shoot on Tuesday (hopefully).  We'll be launching a Youtube, Twitter, Email address, Vimeo, etc, etc for that once we have one or two episodes edited and ready to post.

My basketball league starts tomorrow!  Awesome.

Edit...

* Edit: I just got an email saying that Phone Sex? is no longer eligible for revenue sharing because advertisers only want their ads next to family friendly material. I guess it's not exactly for every age group, but what are you gonna do...

Here's some family friendly material instead:

Non-sense

Youtube contacted me and one of my videos (from four years ago) has enough views to be eligible for revenue sharing with Ad-sense, meaning they're going to put ads after or before my video and I earn money based on viewers clicking the ads, or something like that. The video has over 66,000 views, but then again, it's been four years.

Just FYI the video is called Phone Sex? It's a comedy skit about a guy (played by me) who calls a phone sex hotline but his fetish is that he likes the ladies to be fully clothed and he enjoys when girls put clothes on. It's silly, there's some mild sexual innuendos, whatever, it's not for everyone, but the random people who have seen it on Youtube have responded to it. It's no Yelling Goat though.

I don't think I'm going to be able to quit the day job quite yet, I doubt if I'll make more than a few dollars from the ads. I also added ads to this blog because it's all through Google and I already have the account for Youtube, yada yada. But hopefully when I get these webisodes set up they can get some good views on Youtube.

I have another video on Youtube, again from four years ago, that I think is way funnier called Picture Frame. But again, that's not for everybody.

Yesterday I went to my manager's softball game and met Jamie Foxx. My manager plays on J. Foxx's production company's team. I hate to keep name dropping Jamie Foxx but he is a man that can get things made. I gave one of his guys a treatment for a movie and a comedy TV show spec, hopefully they read it/ enjoy it.

Also at the game I overheard a familiar voice talking, I looked up and who did I see but Money Mike from Johnson Family Christmas Dinner. That's the second actor from one of my screenplays that got produced that I've seen in real life just out and about. I talked to him for a while and we might play some basketball, it turns out he's in the same league I'm about to start playing in but a different division.

Slept-tember

The movie that I wrote that I thought was going to be released on DVD in September has had it's release date pushed back to possibly February. Birthday present from me to me?

Nora's Hair Salon 3 has an IMDb page and an official release date, March 3rd, 2011.

Happenstances is still in the works, my producer is talking to a line producer and a budget will be made soon.

I have a first draft of the baseball movie I've been talking about, I gave it to Phil and I am waiting for his notes. The day I gave it to him though he read it and called me to tell me he loved it, which is rewarding. I hope to get his notes soon and have a draft we can give to my manager and Phil can start giving it to his contacts as well.

I recently started meeting with some LAFSC alums and friends of friends to do a comedy web series. I'll be directing the episodes, we already have scripts for a few episodes and hope to shoot some in the next couple of weeks.

I also did a variety show/ Chappelle's show type spec for a friend of my manager. Typical Pete, being cryptic, but it would be an awesome job if I got it.

The next thing I'm working on is a new draft of Addicted to You to enter in the 2011 Beverly Hills Film Festival, because that was so much fun last year. I met with one of my professors from Towson/ a Producer on Intervention to talk about the script and he gave me good ideas about the story. If you're a screenwriter, the Earlybird Deadline to submit a screenplay for the 2011 competition is October 1st. Go to Withoutabox to submit.

My new phone and phone number have been working out. If you play the Droid scrabble game WordFeud then look me up, my name is PeterLH.

And one of the most exciting things, to me, I'm going to start playing in an intramural basketball league in Beverly Hills next week!!! Ten games and playoffs. I can't wait.

Things are good at home, Ash started school again so we are deliberate with trying to spend time together during the week, but she loves her students. Summer is a good babe. I've been getting discouraged about the writing things but looking at all the projects in various stages is reassuring, and I've had some stuff made, and I'm young, etc, etc... So I'm not too down in the dumps about any of that.

Here's an interesting article about Intervention by the way.
